Pope Francis: ‘Hypocrisy within the Church is mainly detestable’

Addressing pilgrims who have been seated in the corridor and wearing face coverings to avoid the spread of COVID-19, the pope talked about that Paul was, in essence, accusing Peter of hypocrisy.

He advised that hypocrisy could be described as "the worry of the fact."

"In an environment where interpersonal family members are lived below the banner of formalism, the virus of hypocrisy conveniently spreads," he spoke of.

He referred to that hypocrisy is generally condemned in the Bible. He highlighted the example of Eleazar, an aged Jewish man who refused to save his lifestyles by means of eating meat sacrificed to pagan deities.

Quoting from the 2nd ebook of Maccabees, the pope observed that Eleazar had refused since the more youthful technology would conclude that he had "long gone over to an alien faith" and be led off beam.

"What a good looking episode to think of to distance ourselves from hypocrisy," the pope remarked. "The Gospels, too, document a few cases during which Jesus strongly reproaches people who appear just externally, but who internally are crammed with falsity and iniquity."

He encouraged pilgrims to study the twenty third chapter of St. Matthew's Gospel and observe how repeatedly Jesus refers to "hypocrites."

He added that hypocrites are americans who "faux, flatter, and deceive" as a result of they lack the braveness to face the fact.
