cross words: Jesus knows suffering - Pomeroy each day ...

"Why would a fine God enable dangerous things to take place to respectable americans?"

It's a question theologians and philosophers have debated for a while. I consider sitting in a theology type closing 12 months, discovering what's often called the "difficulty of evil." And to today, humanity struggles to reconcile evil and God. after all, if God is all-powerful and ideal, then why does evil exist?

neatly, my intention this week is not to jot down a philosophical evaluation of why evil and struggling exist. There are a lot smarter theologians obtainable who can deliver much stronger solutions. however in continuation of my "Jesus is aware" series, I need to contemplate a truth that may still really shift our perspective on ache and suffering.

You see, Jesus understands struggling.

Let's consider about this for a second. all through the Christmas season, we have a good time God coming to earth in the person of Jesus Christ. We renowned that He "became flesh and dwelt amongst us" (see John 1:14). Which capability He experienced both the joys and sorrows of being human.

The Bible says, "for this reason he needed to be made like his brothers in every recognize, so that he might develop into a merciful and trustworthy high priest in the carrier of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the americans" (Heb. 2:17 ESV).

not most effective does Jesus be aware suffering, He understands death. in any case, He died for our sin.

"For Christ additionally suffered as soon as for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he could convey us to God, being put to death in the flesh however made alive in the spirit" (1 Pet. three:18 ESV).

Now, this might sound like an excellent Friday message. but first rate Friday (the loss of life of Christ) doesn't happen devoid of Christmas (the arrival of Christ). and yuletide is a beautiful time to consider the weight and magnificence of what Jesus accomplishes through His suffering. With that being referred to, let's take a glance on the suffering of Christ on our behalf.

"Then Jesus went with them to a spot referred to as Gethsemane, and he spoke of to his disciples, 'sit down here, whereas i'm going over there and pray.' And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he started to be sorrowful and bothered. Then he talked about to them, 'My soul is awfully sorrowful, even to loss of life; remain right here, and watch with me.' And going a bit farther he fell on his face and prayed, asserting, 'My Father, if it's feasible, let this cup circulate from me; in spite of this, not as i will be able to, however as you're going to'" (Matt. 26:36-39 ESV).

After His arrest, the Bible continues, "Then they spit in his face and struck him. and some slapped him, announcing, 'Prophesy to us, you Christ! who is it that struck you?'" (Matt. 26:67-68 ESV).

"and they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his correct hand. And kneeling earlier than him, they mocked him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' and they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the top. And when they'd mocked him, they stripped him of the gown and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him" (Matt. 27:28-31 ESV).

one of the most convincing responses given to the "problem of evil" argument is to agree with the suffering that God Himself persisted for a people who would mock Him, ridicule Him, and put Him to demise on a move. All whereas being totally capable of eliminating Himself from that struggling and disowning sinful humanity for all of eternity.

however there's hope. I'm no longer bound what class of suffering you're experiencing today. maybe it's physical ache. possibly it's severe nervousness. might be it's a terminal disease. however my encouragement to you is that this: Jesus is familiar with.

And Jesus Christ is coming once again sooner or later. struggling doesn't have the last word. And when His people enter that new Jerusalem some glorious day, "'he will wipe away each tear from their eyes, and loss of life shall be no extra, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the previous things have handed away'" (Rev. 21:four ESV).

No rely what type of struggling we face, we are able to find comfort in the palms of a Savior who is aware. Why? because He got here as a baby on that day we call Christmas.

"For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in consolation too" (2 Cor. 1:5 ESV).
